"People often think the word 'success' means 'more'. However, I believe success is about the quality and not the quantity. I can teach 90 students and say 'I am a successful teacher but I don't get to know my students', or I can say 'I have 35 students, and I form a good relationship with every single one of them'. Over the past ten years, I have taught piano and violin to all ages. I really love teaching piano because not only can I share beautiful music, but I can also be a friend to all of my students. I am so glad that my students trust me as a teacher and as a friend.
My approach of teaching is to expose kids and adults to different types of music. They then realize that music holds plenty of choices and variety! Not everyone plays piano forever, but as long as they enjoy playing, that's all that matters.

During this time, Javier took upon himself two more years of intense composition study and experimenting with some of the secrets of this art, which now has become one of his many passions. He is a member of The Piano Club in Sacramento. The meetings twice a month offer a supportive environment for adults who have returned to the piano or have begun taking lessons for the first time, they organize recitals once a year. Shelly Henley has had the wonderful privilege of teaching music to hundreds of children and adults over the last 30 years. In addition to private piano instruction, she has directed choirs in San Juan Unified School District for primary, intermediate and high school-age kids, and has taught music appreciation programs in various schools and through private instruction. Shelly’s other great love in the arts is children’s musical theater. Besides directing dozens of school-wide productions, she founded and directed Lacy Lane Summer Theater for 12 years, a ‘hands-on’, child-run musical theater company that allowed the participants to write, direct, act, sing, choreograph, build sets, design costumes, and handle the publicity, marketing and budgeting of their very own theater company. All of Shelly’s creative projects share her philosophy: Everyone is creative, imaginative and gifted. To build healthy communities, there must be opportunities for children and adults to express themselves creatively, and active involvement in the world of music is one of the very best (and fun!) ways to do that.
